A 60-second SEO lesson

No website can stand without a strong backbone. And that backbone is technical SEO."

Most business topics get me excited or stir up new ideas. SEO is not one of them.

I don’t want to learn it, I don’t care about it and I wish it would go away.

Buuuut then I remember, it can literally make or break a business or blog and when done correctly, can mean a LOT more money in my bank account every month. (Son of a!!)

Today’s lesson is you and me both taking in some bare-minimum SEO info; just enough to keep the biz ball rolling without torturing ourselves. LMK if it’s helpful!

LESSON

KNOW THIS:

  1. Google Algorithm Update in March 2024:

    1. It focused on removing low-value content, particularly AI-generated content lacking quality and originality.

    2. It aimed to improve user experience by filtering out content that doesn’t provide value.

  2. EEAT (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trust):

    1. It’s important for ranking but is not a direct ranking factor in Google algorithm.

    2. Google’s Knowledge Graph helps understand and connect entities like authors, which can influence rankings.

  3. Content Quality Over Quantity:

    1. High-quality, experience-driven content is emphasized over mass-produced, AI-generated content.

    2. Examples, case studies, and unique perspectives increase content value and trustworthiness.

  4. Link Building and Brand Mentions:

    1.  Links still matter as they signal confidence in content.

    2. Brand mentions (even without direct links) contribute to SEO as Google recognizes these associations. Hint: this is really good.

  5. User Experience and Core Web Vitals

    1. Google’s focus is on providing a good user experience, which includes page load speed and layout stability, etc.

    2. Core Web Vitals, although not direct ranking factors, are important for improving user interaction with content.

  6. Content Regularity and Updates:

    1.  Regular content updates are important for maintaining and improving rankings.

    2. Revisiting and improving existing content can yield significant SEO benefits.

  7. SEO vs Social Media:

    1. SEO often drives more measurable business results than social media, though it receives less attention.

    2. Regular monitoring and reporting on SEO performance are essential for ongoing improvement. Empathy is crucial in addressing customer pain points and building trust.
