Get in losers, we're networking this year
“Your network is your net worth.”
If your business makes New Year’s resolutions, we suggest this: make as many biz besties as possible in the next 12 months.
Not only will it force you to get out of your sweats (booo), but having likeminded peers is the best way to light a fire under your ass to actually move the needle in your biz.
LESSON
Reasons you should be networking (even if you hate it)
KNOW THIS:
Snag amazing jobs- Schmooze your way to that dream job before someone else gets it.
“Steal” a ton of info- Suck up knowledge like a vacuum at industry parties. You'll be the one dropping bombs about the latest tech or trends while others are still playing catch-up.
Level up- Workshops and conferences are your playground for self-improvement. Show up, learn some shit, and prove you're not just another drone.
Get into the spotlight- Be seen, be loud, be memorable. If you’re not in the room, you're not in the game. Make sure everyone knows your name.
Get help- Got a problem? There’s always someone in your network who can throw you a lifeline or at least point you in the right direction on how to handle it.
Expand your biz- Score clients, partners, or investors at cocktail hours. Your next big break could be sipping a martini right next to you.
Get ideas- Rub elbows with the brainiacs and use their ideas for inspo. Innovation isn’t just for the geeks.
Hoard resources- Use your newfound connections to get your hands on all the good stuff – from software to office perks. Why buy when you can borrow?
Grow your social capital- It’s not just about who you know; it's about who knows you and owes you one.
DO THIS:
Always, always, always approach networking with a GIVE not an ASK. If you’re genuinely helpful to other people, the social clout gods will reward you.
